Calming tablets for dogs during travel

When should I give them?

Give the labelled amount approximately 2–3 hours before the journey. If this is your dog’s first time using the tablets, try them on a quiet day first so you can observe the response without the pressure of travel.

Before setting off

• Use a secure, familiar restraint or travel crate.
• Keep the car cool and well ventilated.
• Bring water and plan breaks for longer journeys.
• Avoid a large meal immediately before travel if your dog is prone to sickness.
• Use familiar bedding and keep noise low.

Watch the individual response

Some dogs settle on their starting weight-based amount; others may need the permitted one-tablet increase. Allow sufficient time before deciding. If the dog drools, vomits or appears physically unwell, travel sickness or another condition may be involved—ask your vet rather than simply increasing the tablets.

Build confidence gradually

For dogs that dislike the car, begin with short periods in a stationary vehicle, then brief journeys, rewarding calm behaviour. Calming support works best alongside patient, gradual practice.
